The aim of project
Share my experience
Insects represent 2/3 of all living organisms on Earth, and nearly 90% of all animals. So, personally, I think it’s a shame to just know that they are there, without getting to know them better. It is impossible to take care of our planet without taking care of insects. And how can we take care of them and respect them if we don’t know them?
Discovering insects, learning to know them, to appreciate them to better protect them !
In Nihan’s expert hands, you will discover fascinating, attractive and exciting insects.
Acquire new skills
Learn how to observe insects
To acquire knowledge about the identification, life style and role of insects and other small animals. To approach the notion of biodiversity of living organisms.
By observing insects, to know their way of life : food, mode of movement, adapted temperature and life cycle.
To be able to capture living beings with care, to know how to take samples and observe.
Learn while observing. Share tasks. Handle and care for living things. To identify the importance and fragility of animal biodiversity through this workshop “The wonderful word of insects”.
The Wonderful world of insects, a workshop with Nihan in 3 sessions of 1h30 to learn to observe, to discover the world of insects in their environment and to perceive the extreme biodiversity of the insect order in the animal kingdom.
Session 1 : Introduction to insects/what are insects?
We’ll kick things off with an overview of what insects are and what they are not. You may be surprised to learn spiders are not insects. You’ll also learn how entomologists identify and classify various species. You’ll see some of the insect specimens you may come across in Turkey and other regions of the world.
Session 2 : How and where to find insects ?
Get ready for a day of adventure ! The group will go on a field trip to Ataturk Arboretum where Nihan will show you how to locate insects in the wild. Believe it or not, Istanbul is a wonderful habitat for bugs and you’ll learn how to find various types of insects when you’re out in nature.
Session 3 : Cooking for insects
Wondering what insects eat and how you can help them survive in this concrete jungle? Insects play crucial roles in the world around us, and not only in nature, even in the cities ! Learn how to make seedbombs for pollinators and how to support insects to ensure their sustainability. We’ll make seedbombs packed with pollinator friendly flowers’ seeds so you can disperse the balls throughout the city in spring time.
